Health Care

WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE

In India, healthcare delivery has changed from a predominantly public-funded system to a private-public funded system. "This has led to the emergence of new drivers of healthcare, which are instrumental in changing the overall face of healthcare delivery in India. However, these new facets need in-depth analysis and radical rethinking, if India has to scale up to the level of the developed world in terms of healthcare.

The rising corporate sector in India increases the need for corporate governance of hospitals and healthcare institutions. "This, in turn, creates the need for skilled and highly-qualified doctors, nurses and trained healthcare managers in sufficient numbers. Besides an urgent and mammoth need for capacity building, there is also a requirement in terms of standardisation of healthcare services throughout the country.

In India, healthcare services, which have largely remained non-equitable, need to be strengthened. "These services will benefit through capacity building and redistribution both in terms of the health workforce and health resources. Consequently, these nonequitable healthcare delivery systems usher in an invisible and untapped new window of opportunity - the opportunity for healthcare financing mechanisms to be instituted especially in rural areas.Medical health insurance is not yet comprehensive in India, although some innovative financing mechanisms have been successful in rural settings such as the Yashaswini Health Insurance scheme. "This clearly shows more promise as far as community-based health insurance schemes are concerned. Further, this can be backed up by community initiatives to improve mass awareness of diseases and augment participation from both private and public hospitals in terms of disease management.

Issues like high maternal mortality ratio (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR) need urgent and undivided attention. There is a pressing need to ensure that all women can avail of institutional delivery in place of the highly unsafe domiciliary delivery modes. Moreover, vaccines need to be given to all children and newer vaccines introduced rapidly. The increasing quantum of diabetes, cardiovascular, mental and cancer patients show clearly that preventive healthcare strategies need to be used in a more effective manner.Today, people are aware that there is career scope for non-medical graduates in the healthcare sector. However, there is still a little hesitation to foray into this sector largely because specific opportunities are not known to many. Non-medical graduates from any stream can pursue a Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Management (PGDHM) / Master's in Hospital.
